Why TDC is the commercial benchmark in Ontario.
TDC (Transverse Duct Connector) is a flanged connection system where a roll-formed flange is crimped onto each duct end. Sections are joined with steel corner clips and a foam or rubber gasket. The result is an airtight, demountable joint that meets SMACNA Class A leakage requirements.
TDC is the dominant connection system for medium and large commercial HVAC in Ontario. Mechanical engineers specify it on most commercial drawings. Inspectors expect it. If you're doing commercial HVAC in the GTA, you're doing TDC.
Unlike S&D, TDC joints can be unbolted and resealed for service access. The gasket seal dramatically reduces system leakage, which matters for commissioning on commercial jobs with specified leakage classes.
